Dear Mama, Don't Forget Yourself This Back-to-School Season
The first day of school is often filled with mixed emotions.
Maybe you watched your little one walk through those school doors with excitement, holding back tears until you made it back to your car. Maybe you're celebrating having a quieter house for a few hours each day. Maybe you're grieving another milestone that came far too quickly. Or maybe you're simply wondering how you're going to balance all the drop-offs, pick-ups, sports practices, homework, meals, laundry, work, and everything else on your plate.
Back-to-school season isn't just an adjustment for our children—it's a transition for mothers, too.
As moms, we naturally pour ourselves into making sure everyone else is prepared. We buy the school supplies, organize the calendars, wash the uniforms, pack the lunches, schedule the appointments, and remember all the little details that keep a family running.
But somewhere in the middle of caring for everyone else, we often forget to care for ourselves.
The truth is, your wellness matters just as much as your child's.
When you feel nourished, rested, emotionally supported, and spiritually grounded, your entire family benefits. Your children don't need a perfect mom—they need a healthy one. A mom who is growing, learning, healing, and showing them what it looks like to care for herself without guilt.
This school year, give yourself permission to build routines that support you, too.
Start Your Morning Before the Rush
If possible, wake up even 15–30 minutes before the rest of the house.
Instead of immediately checking your phone or mentally reviewing your to-do list, begin your day with intention.
Spend a few quiet moments in prayer.
Read a few verses of Scripture.
Sip a nourishing drink.
Stretch your body.
Write down three things you're grateful for.
These small practices don't have to take an hour. Even ten intentional minutes can shift the tone of your entire day.
When we begin from a place of peace instead of panic, we respond differently to the inevitable challenges that come with motherhood.
Fuel Yourself Like You Matter
How many times have you made your child's breakfast only to realize it's lunchtime and you've had nothing but cold coffee or a handful of crackers?
You're not alone.
But your body deserves nourishment, too.
Choose meals that include protein, healthy fats, fiber, and plenty of colorful fruits and vegetables. Stay hydrated throughout the day, especially if you're constantly on the go between school, work, and activities.
Remember that food isn't just fuel—it's information for your body. The choices you make today affect your energy, hormones, mood, focus, and overall well-being.
You cannot continue pouring from an empty cup forever.

Protect Your Peace
Not every school event requires comparison.
Not every social media post deserves your attention.
Not every invitation requires a "yes."
One of the healthiest things you can do this school year is create healthy boundaries.
Protect your family's schedule.
Protect your mental health.
Protect your time with the Lord.
Protect the moments that matter most.
Busyness is not the same as fruitfulness.
Sometimes the most productive thing we can do is slow down enough to be fully present.
Move Your Body with Joy
Exercise doesn't have to mean spending hours in the gym.
Take a walk after school drop-off.
Dance while cleaning the kitchen.
Stretch while dinner is cooking.
Play outside with your kids.
Choose movement that refreshes you instead of punishes you.
Your body was designed to move, and movement is one of God's gifts that supports both physical and emotional health.
Remember You Were Created for More Than Surviving
Motherhood is beautiful.
It's also demanding.
Some seasons feel like we're simply trying to keep everyone fed, clothed, and where they need to be on time.
But God didn't create you merely to survive each day until bedtime.
He created you to flourish.
To grow.
To experience joy.
To care for the body He entrusted to you.
To build a home filled with peace instead of constant striving.
To become the woman He has called you to be.
When you invest in your own wellness, you are not taking away from your family—you are investing in them.
Find Community Along the Way
Motherhood was never meant to be lived in isolation.
Every mom needs women who will encourage her, pray for her, celebrate her victories, and remind her she isn't alone on the hard days.
Whether it's a trusted friend, your church, a small group, or a community centered on holistic wellness and faith, don't be afraid to ask for support.
There is strength in walking alongside other women who understand your journey.
You don't have to carry everything by yourself.
If you're looking for your Village where you build life long friendships, have support along the journey, wanting wellness support, and cultivating a lifestyle rooted in faith, I invite you to join me inside The Flourishing Mama Circle!
This Is Your Season, Too
As your children begin a new school year, remember that you are beginning a new season as well.
Maybe this is the year you finally prioritize your health.
Maybe it's the year you simplify your schedule.
Maybe it's the year you heal from burnout.
Maybe it's the year you deepen your faith, strengthen your marriage, grow your confidence, or rediscover the passions God placed within your heart.
Whatever this season holds, know this:
You are worthy of care.
You are worthy of rest.
You are worthy of healing.
And you are worthy of flourishing.
So as you zip backpacks, pack lunches, sign permission slips, and cheer from the sidelines, don't forget the woman doing all of those things.
She matters, too.
This back-to-school season, choose to care for yourself with the same love, grace, and intention that you so freely give to everyone else. Because when a mama flourishes, her family has the opportunity to flourish right alongside her.
